Michiel Vermeiren (°1993) is studying the ‘Master of Science in Public Management and Public Policy’ at the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration at Ghent University. He is writing a master thesis in the field of maritime security which will be registered under the following title ‘Charting the effectiveness of public and private security interventions at maritime ports’. Prof. dr. Marleen Easton is supervising his master thesis. Since January 2015, Michiel is on a voluntary basis student-assistant in the research group ‘Governing and Policing Security’ (GaPS).
As a student, Michiel participated in a two-week international seminar on ‘Europe Needs Innovative Programs to Integrate Migrants and Ethnical Minorities – New approaches for integration into the labour market and promotion of entrepreneurship of immigrants’. The international seminar took place at the Carinthian University of applied sciences, Campus Villach in Austria. Participants from five European countries attended this seminar: Austria, Belgium, Germany, Poland and Sweden.
Since January 2013, Michiel is a member of council in his hometown Hoogstraten. He also did his internship at the Cabinet of the State Secretary of state reform, sustainable development and ‘Regie der Gebouwen’ in the spring of 2014. This provides him with some policy experience.
