Mehari Fisseha is a Doctoral Scholar in Public Administration and Management with a background in International Human Rights Law and International Relations. He is an expert in Migration, Refugee protection and Humanitarian intervention. He holds LLB (Law and European Studies) from the University of Limerick - Ireland, (MA) in Governance and Political Transformation from the University of Free State – South Africa, (MA) in Criminal Justice, Governance and Police Science from Faculty of Law of the Ruhr-Universität Bochum (RUB) in Germany, (MSc) in Sociology of Law from Lund University – Sweden, (MA) in Peacebuilding from Coventry University (UK), (MA) in International Development Practice from Mary Immaculate College / University of Limerick – Ireland, (MComm) in Government and Public Policy from University College Cork – Ireland and (MA) in Religion in Peace and Conflict from Uppsala University, Sweden. Morover, Mehari has attended courses and conferences in Germany, Sweden, Malta, Portugal, Romania, Ireland, Moldova, Poland, Italy, Czech Republic and Spain.

 He also holds specialized professional certificates in various areas of Migration, Negotiation and Conflict Management, Governance, Humanitarian Law and Human Trafficking including: Refugee Protection and Human rights of indigenous people organized by National University of Ireland Galway (NUIG), Protection of civilians in peace operations jointly organized by the United Nations Institute for training and research and the German Federal Foreign Office, International Humanitarian Law and Policy [online] Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts USA: Programme on Humanitarian Policy and Conflict Research, Civil Monitors - observers and field staff organized by Folke Bernadotte Academy, Social Justice – Human Rights and Racial discrimination organized by Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies-University of Malta and the Swiss Government, Refugee Protection - Legal Challenges on Migration and Refugees organized by Faculty of Law-Catholic University of Portugal, State Development: State Reform-Public Administration and Regional Development Bucharest Academy of Economic Studies, Refugee Status Determination jointly organized by the UNHCR and International Institute of Humanitarian Law Sanremo,  Postgraduate Research Methodology: “Connected Communities: Active Democratic Citizenship in Central and Eastern Europe” jointly organized by University of Glasgow and Center for European Studies Jagiellonian University. He has studied in many countries, among these are: Ireland, South Africa, Germany, Sweden, and United Kingdom. He also took part in exchange program with Stockholm University in Political Science department. While he was studying at the University of Limerick, he worked with a local NGO helping Asylum Seekers and Refugees in giving free legal services and information on the same. He also worked for Benjamin N.Cardozo School of Law – New York. He has worked in Africa in particular in areas of peace and conflict with the emphasis on South Sudan conflict, Darfur and the Ethio-Eritrean Conflict.

Mehari is also affiliated to the research group 'Governing and Policing Security' (GaPS) within the Department Business and Public Administration at Ghent University. Since January 2014 he is visiting lecturer at the Ruhr University in Bochum within the framework of the International Master Criminal Justice, Governance and Police Science. He is member of the Executive Board of Global Network for Socio Economic Research Development and International Conference of Socio-Economic Researchers (ICSR). His doctoral research focus will be: Unravelling the migration crisis: An Analysis of EU Refugee protection in the Mediterranean Sea
