Biografie

I am a postdoctoral research fellow of the Research Fund Flanders, with Ghent University (Institute for International Research on Criminal Policy) as a host institution. My research focuses on the significance of harm in environmental governance decision making. I also work as an Assistant Professor at Erasmus University Rotterdam (the Netherlands). I previously worked as Assistant Professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice (USA) and as a  researcher at Governing and Policing Security at Ghent University (Belgium).

In December of 2012 I graduated as PhD in Criminology (Ghent University, Belgium). For my dissertation I examined the governance of transnational environmental crime. I focused on the illegal transports of e-waste and tropical timber connected to the Belgian harbor of Antwerp. My areas of interest and expertise include environmental crime, organizational crime, environmental governance and policing. I am also an assistant editor of the European Journal of Policing Studies.

Before I started my PhD research, I worked as a researcher at Ghent University and the Flemish Center for Police Studies (CPS) doing research on police leadership, commissioned by the Department of the Interior about police leadership. Police leadership and policing more in general are therefore a second research interest and publication topic. In line with this research interest, I work as an assistant editor for the European Journal of Policing Studies.
